Hosted by Ghanaian writers Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah and Malaka Grant, Adventures From the Bedrooms of African Women explores African women’s experiences of sex, sexualities, and pleasure.

In this series, our hosts speak to women, gender non-conforming people, and some men from around Africa about what it takes for them to EXPERIENCE SEXUAL PLEASURE.

Nana Darkoa

Co-Host & Co-Founder

Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah is the author of The Sex Lives of African Women. She is an award-winning blogger, and co-founder of Adventures from the Bedrooms of African Women, a website, podcast and festival that publishes and creates content that tells stories of African women’s experiences around sex, sexualities, and pleasure.

Nana Darkoa’s opinion editorials and articles have been published by The Guardian, open Democracy and Essence. She has contributed to anthologies such as Feminist Parenting: Perspectives from Africa and Beyond as well as The Routledge Handbook of Queer Africa Studies. Her short stories have been published in It Wasn’t Exactly Love and The Pot and Other Stories.

 

Malaka Grant

Co-Host & Co-Founder

Malaka Grant is the co-host of the Adventures Podcast and Managing Director of MASI Media. She is a novelist and storyteller whose written works about love, marriage and parenting have been featured on The Talk, This Is Africa and My Brown Baby, as well as contributing her views on consent to the Verso Book of Feminism: Revolutionary Words From Four Millenia of Rebellion.

As a firm believer in the Creative Overlap philosophy, she expresses her creativity through myriad mediums using indigenous resources and techniques. At the moment she lives in South Africa with her family and the stray cat who adopted her kids.

 

Frederica Boswell

Sr. Producer

Freddie is the Senior Producer for the Adventures podcast. She began her career working for the African Service at the BBC in London, where she remembers writing an article about this exciting new sex blog recently launched in Ghana.

After a brief stint reporting from Zanzibar – and finally learning Kiswahili - Freddie produced at NPR in Washington, D.C. for 5 years. From her base in the Arabian Gulf, she continues to pinch herself that she gets paid to listen to people’s stories.

 

Fatima Derby

Associate Producer

Fatima B. Derby is an associate producer on the Adventures Podcast. She is a Ghanaian feminist writer, communications consultant and community organizer based in Accra. She is an editor and contributing writer on the award-winning blog, Adventures from the Bedrooms of African Women where she writes about sex and body politics from a feminist perspective.

Her written work documenting feminist and queer organizing in Africa has been published in the Women in Islam Journal (Issue 5, 2021)) by Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) and the Feminist Realities Digital Magazine by Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID).

 

Wana Udobang

Writer

Wana Udobang is the writer for the Adventures from the Bedrooms of African Women Podcast. She is a storyteller and artist working at the intersection of writing, poetry, performance, film and curation. Her writing has appeared on the BBC, Aljazeera, The Guardian, Observer and CNN.

Wana curates the archival project Culture Diaries which documents the works of African artists and runs the storytelling workshop Comfort Food which uses food as a conduit to telling new stories. Her first solo multimedia exhibition Dirty laundry, an immersive installation of poems printed on linen fabric is currently on tour.
